Monday 13th of June – 3D printing itself is a great technology but preparing a print file could be quite a hassle sometimes. Wouldn’t it be great if you could login onto an online platform and send your files directly to your 3D printer? It is possible now with the use of The Element!
To demonstrate the great functionalities of The Element, FELIXprinters and Printr visited secondary school CSG Willem van Oranje to install and demonstrate The Element. The device is basically a wifi module which you connect directly to your 3D printers. It allows you to manage your files and control your 3D printers through an online platform. Besides the control features The Element also enables you to manage and prepare your digital print files. It is definitely a great tool for everyone who wants to take 3D printing to a whole new level!
CSG Willem van Oranje is a secondary school in the Netherlands with a great ambition to adapt new technologies into their lessons. This shows in the fact that every student has a personal Chrome book. Also wifi is available throughout the building and many projects and assignments can be handed in through an online environment. For many years CSG Willem van Oranje has owned a FELIX 3 and very recently they purchased a FELIX Pro 1. The purchase of The Element is meant to ease the process from drawing a digital file to the actual printing of the object in 3D.
At Willem van Oranje they have already integrated 3D printers into their digital drawing and designing lessons. In the ‘old’ situation students designed their objects in Tinkercad and from there the teacher prepared it for 3D printing. To enable students to easily prepare a digital object for 3D printing themselves, the school purchased The Element. The great benefit of The Element is that it allows every teacher and student to prepare files and connect to the 3D printer through the online platform.
Having control over your printer through wifi (and the local platform) is interesting and useful in many situations. A selection of the advantages:
More and more schools and universities integrate the use of 3D printers into their lessons. It is one of the steps to fully prepare a student for the technology that will be used in their careers. It is also a great way to let students experiment and discover new technologies. The addition of an Element allows schools and universities to give their students easy access to 3D printing. Students will benefit from well developed 3D printing software and the ability to create and manage a printing queue.
Also for households and businesses The Element truly adds a new dimension to 3D printing. When working with The Element you will be able to manage your files, prepare your files for printing (slicing) and start your 3D printers through a cloud based platform. You are able to do so through any mobile device, tablet and a web browser on your computer. The great thing about The Element is the fact it has access to a huge database with all the essential information about many 3D printers and a large selection of 3D printing materials.
Since the day Printr announced their official start there has been a close cooperation between the two companies. In the beginning FELIXprinters contributed by providing 3D printers that could be used for testing purposes. Due to the fact that FELIXprinters is involved since the first stages of development, the FELIX 3D printers and filaments are perfectly integrated throughout every Printr product.
The Element is a powerful USB device that connects your FELIX directly to the Formide online ecosystem. A plug & play upgrade that adds a whole new dimension to your 3D printing experience. Queuing, slicing and printing multiple projects on multiple printers is not only possible, but remarkably productive. Order here
