Re: New extruder carriage design for E3D Bowden Hot end

I have the E3D hot end (bowden version) finally running. I use PLA and 215 C extruder temp and 65 C bed temp. I also switched to the bigger NEMA 17 motor for the extrusion and bumped up the power a bit. I am facing severe under extrusion. I used both the SFACT - normal profile, and SLIC3R, but both with the same (bad) results.

I am switching back to the Felix hot-end version 4.
I will also order the dual-extruder upgrade from the Felix 3.0 (according to Guillaume this will come available mid december as an upgrade.

I changed also to 12V with the felix v4 hot end.
No clogging since, and have retraction setting at 1.5 mm.
Very happy with the new hot end.
Also upgraded the bed, the sandwich model that comes with Felix 3.0.
Very stiff and flat, easy to level.

I didn't wanted to start a Felix versus E3D hotend fight. I've had great results with the Felix hot-end also, but over time the clogging will occur. And, I've had my fair share of problems with the plastic PEEK. I think the all metal design of the E3D hotend is a gigantic step forward compared to the plastic heat barrier. I have even seen PEEK-melting problems on this forum about it. I have had PLA leaking trough the thread of the PEEK over the hot-end. I have stripped the tread when I tried to tighten it good... arrghhh the frustration I've had with this piece of plastic... And with this hot-end, I haven't got any problems at all... I haven't got a single clog or misbehavior from the very first print I've started with it. The only thing different is that I need to print on a higher temperature than the Felix hot-end. Don't know why. Maybe a different thermistor scale or its the way the head is designed. I don't know why the E3D hot-end isn't working for you. Maybe there's a construction error in you're e3d hot-end, of something not assembled right in the feeder... But for me, it works great.

There are sure advantaged of the E3D Hotend and disatvantages.
I personally did not manage to get the E3D to run as good as the V4 Felix hotend right now.
But I will give the E3D another try after I finished printing my Chirstmas presents.

Have just to get rid of the oozing (retraction optimization will help hopefully) and the ugly hairing issue I had before; maybe running the fan with 12V will help for both???

So as my Felix V4 Hotend failed today (Filament again stuck in the PEEK part) and have no urgend print jobs todo;

I played a little bit with the E3D Hotend and resolved my issues I had before (Slicer settings).

Will let it run for the next couple of days and then compare the results again.

@Satoer
Thanks again for your great design
I think the Kraken would be best mounted with an Aluminim plate on the bearing? What do you think?

can you share your slicer settings?
SFACT and/or SLIC3R.
I am facing severe under extrusion with the E3D hot end.
If that is related to slicer settings, i am interested to learn from you and give it another try.
I too do like satoer's design a lot, and i am eager to get it to run.
