Linux Software?

Post by gskillas » Sun Jan 13, 2013 10:43 pm

Dear all

I am new to 3D printing and trying to sort out the SW requirements. I work exclusively with Linux and I am wondering if I can have a 100% Linux toolchain. Also, suppose I can generate STL files with models what steps do I need to take from thereon?

Thank you in advance and best regards,

George

Hi gskillas, welcome to the forum.

I don't use Linux myself, but I believe you should have no problem using Linux only with your Felix.

FreeCAD:

Arduino (for uploading the printer firmware):

Printrun:

Repetier host seems to be available for Linux:

But you will be stuck at 230400 bauds (some distros can use custom baud rates as 250k , but that is distro and hardware dependant). It works most of the time but the error rate is higher than 250k. The protocol makes this a non issue, but in reality, Repetier Host has issues, where a resend response is not handled correctly some times and it stops printing

Hi gskillas,

For your interest I wrote a guide for using linux as a host.
You can find it here: http://www.felixprinters.com/forum/view ... ?f=5&t=277

I also succesfully installed sketchup with import and export stl functionality.
So it's possible ;)

you will end up jammed on 230400 bauds (some distros are able to use tailor made baud charges while 250k, yet that's distro as well as equipment dependant). It works more often than not even so the problem price is greater than 250k. The project helps make that some sort of not for problem, but also in reality, Repetier Web host features issues, certainly where an resend reply is not dealt with correctly a number of times and yes it ceases stamping.
